FirstCaribbean does not exist in a vacuum. We are, and will always be, an integral part of nearly 90 communities around the region. And our social responsibility spreads even further – throughout each and every country of the Caribbean region we call home.

Our Sponsorship and Community Relations (SCR) programme is but one reflection of how we make our brand promise of promoting “Caribbean Pride” live. Through our community involvement, it is our intention to focus primarily on the good our programmes are able to achieve, rather than on the act of giving.

Our Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) with the University of the West Indies, the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Response Agency (CDERA) and the Caribbean Craft and Gift Show have taken sponsorship agreements and corporate involvement to a different level. These MOU’s are the product of our public commitment to investing 1% of our profits every year in building our communities. Again a First.

In this area of Community Relations, our Unsung Heroes programme has been lauded by many throughout this region and persons of the calibre of Sir Shridath Ramphal, Sir George Alleyne and Sir Neville Nicholls have honoured us by participating in the execution.

That’s why we have conceptualised programmes that will serve our community in partnership:

Sponsorship and Community Relations (SCR):
Our SCR programme is more than involvement in large-scale projects that span the region. Every day our businesses contribute to causes for which even the smallest contributions can mean the difference between success and failure. So we thought it important that we record the journey towards Caribbean excellence that our SCR programme promotes. That’s why we have produced a Social Annual Report, not only as a means of promoting our work in the community, but as a testimony to the people of the Caribbean whose lives have been touched by the programmes.

Our involvement with regional institutions such as the University of the West Indies reflects our hope for the future of our region. Through partnerships like these we intend to play our part in contributing to the development of the Caribbean’s people.

Adopt a Cause:
As part of our corporate response we founded a Sponsorship Community Relations Programme and make contributions to various communities including those who suffered loss through recent hurricanes.

We also launched our Adopt-a-Cause Programmes through which our staff region-wide can undertake various programmes and projects for the benefit of our Caribbean peoples.

Helping to Rebuild:
The devastation wrought by hurricanes throughout the region in 2004 left an indelible mark on hundreds of Caribbean homes. FirstCaribbean was among corporate donors who provided funding assistance to Jamaica, Grenada, The Bahamas and The Cayman Islands, the countries hardest hit by the maelstroms. From September 15, 2004, FirstCaribbean International mobilised its resources around the Caribbean to respond to the challenges posed by the aggressive weather systems around the region.
